Full Biography
DeWanda Wise, born in Jessup, Maryland, grew up in Woodlawn, Laurel, and Baltimore. She began acting during her sophomore year at Atholton High School after being offered a role to avoid detention by theater director Nathan Rosen. Wise graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts in Drama and Urban Studies in 2006. During her undergraduate years, she worked as a resident assistant and stocker at Trader Joe's.
