Story

In Vicenza, Italy in 1956, Anna, a lawyer's wife, feels neglected by her husband Giacomo due to his focus on caring for his sick mother. Anna longs for a child but discovers she is infertile. She is shy and introverted until their maid, Angela, encourages her to express herself more freely. Angela persuades Anna to participate in erotic games which help Anna overcome her inhibitions. Over time, Anna's relationship with Angela evolves into a sexual one, allowing Anna to explore her desires and find liberation from her emotional repression.

Summary

La bonne (The Maid) is a 1986 Italian film directed by Salvatore Samperi, blending comedy, drama, and LGBT-related themes. Set in post-WWII Italy, the movie explores themes of repression, liberation, and female sexuality through the protagonist Anna, who grapples with infertility, abandonment, and societal expectations. The narrative follows Anna's transformation from a shy, inhibited woman to one who embraces her desires, largely due to the influence of Angela, their maid.
