Story
Laila, a teenager with cerebral palsy studying at Delhi University, becomes heartbroken after being rejected by the lead singer of her indie band. She then receives a scholarship to study creative writing at New York University and moves there with her orthodox Maharashtrian mother Shubhangini. Laila meets Jared, an attractive young man assigned to help her in class, and Khanum, a blind activist with whom she falls in love. Confused about her sexual orientation, Laila has sex with Jared but regrets it immediately. She confesses this to Khanum, who feels betrayed and leaves for New York without Laila. Meanwhile, Shubhangini is diagnosed with advanced colon cancer. Laila tends to her mother at the hospital, leading to a reconciliation between them before Shubhangini's death.
