In the alternate timeline where the Cold War never ended, Mylene Hoffman, a cyborg agent of the Western Block's 00 Organization, operates covertly in 'J-Country', a border zone between the two blocs. While investigating human trafficking, she encounters Chris, with whom she develops feelings despite completing her mission and returning to headquarters. Assigned to retrieve Dr. Klein, creator of Mylene's cyborg enhancements, Mylene discovers Chris as an experimental subject during the rescue attempt. Failing to complete her mission due to distraction, Mylene has her license revoked but decides to uncover her buried memories independently.
Set in a dystopian future where technological warfare escalates amidst an unending Cold War, '009-1: The End of the Beginning' (2013) follows cyborg agent Mylene Hoffman as she navigates personal entanglements alongside her espionage missions. This film is an adaptation from the popular manga series by Shotaro Ishinomori. It explores themes of identity loss due to memory alteration and the ethical implications of bio-engineering humans into super-soldiers.
