She began with experimental films like 'Caravaggio' (1986) before winning the Volpi Cup at Venice Film Festival for 'Edward II'. Notable performances include 'Orlando', 'The Deep End', 'Young Adam' (for which she won a BAFTA Scotland Award), 'Michael Clayton' (Academy Award and BAFTA win), and 'We Need to Talk About Kevin'.
