She gained prominence for playing Dr. Susan Lewis on the medical drama ER (1994-2005), earning three Emmy nominations for the role despite leaving and rejoining the series multiple times. Away from ER, Stringfield has held regular roles on NYPD Blue (1993-1998) and Guiding Light (1997-1999). She has also acted in films.
