Full Biography

Rachel Claire Ward AM, born on September 12, 1957, is an English-Australian actress who began her career as a model, appearing on covers of Vogue and Cosmopolitan, among others. She gained recognition for her role in the film 'Sharky's Machine' (1981), earning a Golden Globe nomination for New Star of the Year. In 1983, she starred as Meggie Cleary in the television miniseries 'The Thorn Birds', again nominated for a Golden Globe Award. The same year, U.S. audiences voted her one of the world's ten most beautiful women. Her breakthrough film role was Jess in 'Against All Odds' (1984), opposite Jeff Bridges. After studying acting briefly, she returned to films and television, winning awards for her directing work, including an Australian Film Institute Award for Best Short Fiction Film ('The Big House', 2001). She has been married to actor Bryan Brown since 1983, with whom she has three children.
