He was a talent agent in Los Angeles before inheriting his maternal aunt May Sprague's small peach orchard in Peachland, British Columbia, Canada. Campbell planned to sell the property but encountered resistance from Olivia Cunningham, a friend of his aunt and an environmental activist.
