"Melvis Santa Estevez, popularly known as Melvis Santa, began her artistic journey in Havana from a young age of four. By the age of seven, she had commenced playing classical piano, and at 14, she established the vocal group Sexto Sentido, which emerged victorious at the Jo-Jazz Cuban Youth Jass competition in 2001. Upon graduating from the renowned Amadeo Roldan Conservatory with a degree in Piano and Music Theory, Melvis served as one of the lead vocalists for Interactivo, a fusion band based in Cuba. She introduced her debut solo album, Santa Habana, in 2012, earning a nomination at the CubaDisco Awards.
In the same year, Melvis embarked on her acting career, portraying three distinct characters in three segments of the film '7 Days in Havana' (2012). She took on the roles of Cecilia in "La Tentación de Cecilia," and also appeared in "Jam Session" and "Dulce Amargo." The film received a nomination for the Un Certain Regard Award at Cannes Film Festival, with notable recognition from Mr. Skin for its portrayal of Melvis in various states of nudity during bathing scenes and a standing-up sex scene. She subsequently starred as Harry's Girl in '3 Days in Havana' (2013), before relocating to New York City in 2014.
Currently, Melvis Santa conducts workshops at esteemed institutions such as NYU, CUNY Graduate Center, The Spence School, and Tulane University in New Orleans."
