Jessica Tandy (1909-1994) was an English-American actress who began her career on the London stage at age 16, notably playing Katherine opposite Laurence Olivier and Cordelia opposite John Gielgud. After moving to New York post-divorce from Jack Hawkins, she married Canadian actor Hume Cronyn, with whom she frequently collaborated on stage and screen. Tandy won two Tony Awards for her performances in 'A Streetcar Named Desire' (1948) and 'The Gin Game' (1977), appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Birds' (1963), and played significant roles in films like 'Cocoon' (1985). She became the oldest actress to win an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in 'Driving Miss Daisy' (1989) before her death following an ovarian cancer diagnosis.
