Full Biography
Chantal Anne Akerman (1950-2015) was a Belgian film director, artist, and professor of film at City College, New York. Known for her 1975 film 'Jeanne Dielman', she distanced herself from the feminist label while acknowledging influences from Gilles Deleuze, Felix Guattari, Michael Snow, and Jean-Luc Godard. Akerman's directorial style has been cited as an influence by directors such as Kelly Reichardt, Gus Van Sant, and Sofia Coppola.
