Story
The young Goldmund is sent by his father to study in the monastery Mariabronn where he meets Narcissus, a dedicated religious student. Initially, Goldmund tries to emulate Narcissus' ascetic lifestyle, but their intimate friendship reveals that Goldmund prefers freedom over monastic life.
