Story

Hotel Splendide, located on a remote island accessible only once a month by ferry, was founded by the late Dame Blanche as a decaying resort and health spa. Her grown children now run the hotel according to her specific instructions, offering ghastly seaweed and fish-based food, and unconventional treatments such as enema therapies. Kath, the former sous chef at the hotel, receives an anonymous letter informing her of Dame Blanche's death. She returns to the island with the intention of helping her estranged brother run the hotel, hoping to reconcile their relationship in the process.

Summary

Hotel Splendide is a black comedy film directed by Terence Gross and released in 2000. The story revolves around Kath, a chef seeking reconciliation with her brother by assisting him in managing their mother's decrepit resort and health spa on a remote island. The hotel, once a grand establishment, has fallen into disrepair under the supervision of Dame Blanche's children, who maintain its outdated operations according to their late mother's specifications. Despite its unconventional therapies and unappetizing cuisine, Hotel Splendide offers a darkly comedic critique of the health spa industry while exploring themes of family reconciliation and the challenges of keeping tradition alive.
