She has been nominated twice for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, firstly for 'Being John Malkovich' (1999) and secondly for her portrayal of Harper Lee in 'Capote' (2005). Keener is considered one of the independent film industry's most reliable performers, often portraying disgruntled yet sympathetic women. She has appeared in films like 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin' (2005), 'Into the Wild' (2007), and 'Get Out' (2017). Keener is also a muse of director Nicole Holofcener, appearing in each of her first five films. She starred in the Showtime dramedy series 'Kidding' from 2018 to 2020.
