Story

Spin City follows Deputy Mayor Mike Flaherty (Michael J. Fox) who navigates the chaotic world of New York City politics with his eclectic team of staff members. Their primary mission is to keep the well-meaning but often misguided Mayor Randall Winston (Barry Bostwick) from making a fool of himself in public. The series begins with Mike running the city, assisted by Communications Director Caitlin Moore (Heather Locklear), Chief of Staff Stuart Bondek (Alan Ruck), Press Secretary Paul Lassiter (Richard Kind), Speech Writer James Hobert (Alexander Chaplin), and Accountant Nikki Faber (Connie Britton). Carter Haywood (Michael Boatman), head of Minority Affairs, completes the team. Throughout the series, they face various challenges, including Mayor Winston's antics, such as his obsession with appearing on a popular talk show or his attempt to adopt a child from China. The staff also deals with their own personal issues: Mike struggles with balancing work and family life, while others grapple with romance, career advancement, and self-discovery. In the final two seasons, Mike leaves City Hall due to an ethical dilemma, and Charlie Crawford (Charlie Sheen) takes over his position.
