Portrait of a Lady (1996) is a drama film directed by Jane Campion, based on Henry James' novel of the same name. Set in the late 19th century, it explores themes of wealth, manipulation, and independence through Isabel Archer's journey in Europe. The movie follows Isabel as she navigates her newfound fortune, forms relationships with various characters including Ralph Touchett and Caspar Goodwood, and becomes embroiled in a manipulative scheme orchestrated by Madame Merle and Gilbert Osmond. Nicole Kidman portrays Isabel, marking Campion's second collaboration with Kidman following their acclaimed work on 'The Piano' (1993).
