In 1820s California, Don Diego de la Vega, renowned as Zorro, fights against Spanish oppression and humiliates the cruel Governor Don Rafael Montero. However, he lands in jail and disappears for nearly two decades. Meanwhile, Montero raises Diego's daughter as his own. In 1840, Diego escapes prison and takes under his wing Alejandro Murietta, a troubled bandit with no refinement. He trains Alejandro to become the next Zorro to thwart Montero's sinister plans. A fierce final confrontation ensues between Alejandro, now skilled in swordsmanship, and Governor Montero.
The Mask of Zorro is a 1998 action-adventure film directed by Martin Campbell. Set against the backdrop of Old California, it follows the legendary masked vigilante, Zorro, as he returns to reclaim his legacy after years in prison. The movie is notable for its epic sword fights, stunts, and romantic elements. It's a swashbuckler film that pays homage to the classic Zorro tales while adding new twists with Alejandro Murietta taking over the mantle from Diego de la Vega.
