Story
In early-1930s Los Angeles' Bunker Hill neighborhood, Arturo Bandini (Colin Farrell), a young Italian immigrant aspiring to be a writer, arrives from Colorado with dreams of writing the great LA novel. Six months later, struggling financially, he meets Camilla Lopez (Salma Hayek), a beautiful Mexican waitress who serves him coffee. They begin a relationship, but Arturo's jealousy and fear lead him to behave cruelly towards Camilla. Arturo receives support and encouragement from H.L. Mencken (Richard Schickel), but his insecurities drive a wedge between him and Camilla.
